No 5, Ashfield Flats.

Ashfield Flats is an idyllic Australian rural setting on the banks of the Swan. The off-leash river frontage presents dog walkers with million dollar views while the generous depth of free run bush offers rollicking exercise opportunities for the most athletic of breeds.

Like others before and since, this premium quality exercise area has come under threat of council delisting. It was saved by prompt community action, an example for all dog lovers to organize and be active in defence of their own rights and those of their animals.

There are three obvious points of entry to this walk. In this case we begin at the Sandy Beach reserve, an on-leash area with the convenience of ample car parking facilities, BBQ areas and a toilet block. From here the walk proceeds West along the river.

The off-leash area is bounded by a North-South footpath close to the Sandy Beach end while its most Westerly point is officially taken to be the boardwalk that spans a short wetland stretch.

It is recommended that you walk on into the on-leash section, which takes in a magnificent stretch of natural bush, before climbing the steps to Ashfield Parade for an impressive panoramic view of the river from above.
