The Trigg dog beach (more correctly known as Bennion Beach) is located between
Kathleen and Bennion Streets, Trigg. This beach is the reverse side of the coin
to its southern neighbour at South Scarborough. Whereas the Scarborough dog beach
is vast, Trigg is microscopically small, and where Scarborough’s environment is
exposed, Trigg’s is intimate.
From an aesthetic point-of-view the Trigg dog beach might well be described as
"picturesque", but the payoff for these visual pleasures is considerable.
Small, neat stretches of sand are punctuated by large outcrops of sharp, uneven rock,
making extended walks something akin to negotiating a minefield. Ball retrieving
along the beach might result in cut or sprained paws. Swirling eddies and concealed
rocks make anything but the most close-in dog paddle a hazard. Signs posted along the
steepling, cliff face flanking the beach warn handlers of falling rocks. This
hazard compresses the usable space even further.
Trigg is a beautiful beach to look at but less than ideal to use.
