North Beach/Watermans Dog Beach
This beach extends between the Castle Street Jetty to the South and Waterman's beach (opposite Margaret St) to the North, with access paths at either extremity and a third roughly at the mid-point. The beach is Trigg-like in its characteristics with sharp, weathered, limestone outcrops and swirling, eddying surf that breaks powerfully over a close-in reef. Again like its Southern neighbour, the rock formations flanking the beach are prone to collapse, but they are neither as high nor as steep as at Trigg. This is a longer beach than Trigg and while arguably not quite so picturesque offers more sustained practical pleasures for dogs and handlers who favour bracing and sometimes rugged conditions. The stop-start exercise on offer at these rocky but interesting beaches is of an entirely different order to the prolonged walking and retrieving at South Scarborough and South City Rating
