The Nedlands Foreshore lends itself to two distinct walks. The first, shown here, begins at
the University of Western Australia Boat Club and finishes at Steve’s Hotel in Broadway.
Following the Swan River Foreshore, the changing riverbank scene takes in light refreshment
areas, the Nedland’s Yacht Club, a para / windsurfing shore and a lengthy stretch of open
parkland. By custom, dogs are run off lead in this last area, although the park is not
designated “off-lead” as such.
We begin the walk at the public car park adjacent to the University of Western Australia Boat
Club and cross to the river foreshore. A shallow sandy beach offers the opportunity for dogs to
swim and retrieve in the water should they be thus inclined. Dappled light filtering through
the canopies of mature London Plain trees decorates the grassed bank of the foreshore.
The path follows the river past a cafe and on to the Matilda Bay restaurant. To the left,
we have spectacular views across the bay of the Perth City skyline. Ahead is the picturesque
moorings of the Royal Perth Yacht Club and, beyond that, the Matilda Bay reserve and on to Pelican point.
